Iris pseudacorus ‘Variegata’ is a rhizomatous beardless iris that is at home in every type of wet soil, including the pond shelf! Its lovely yellow and green variegation shines vibrantly in spring and is followed by beautiful pollen and nectar-rich yellow flowers. It is less vigorous than the species, making it a good choice for smaller ponds. Ideal for wildlife gardens, it looks particularly good if planted in naturalized drifts among other moisture-loving plants, especially ones with dark blue flowers. The plant seeds have been used as a coffee substitute and the plant roots have been used historically for medical treatments, dyes, inks, and snuff. Super versatile, this iris makes for a fabulous cut or dried flower!
